How to get started with iTunes
First, you have to install it. Copy this address into your browser's top bar: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
The web page will sense whether you have a Mac or PC. You DO NOT have to enter your email address if you don't want to. Click the "Download" button. If you're prompted to save or open the file, choose "Open." Follow the install procedures -- they're relatively simple.
Step 2
If you have media on your computer, you can add files by going through the "File" selection at the top left hand side, or using the drag & drop method. Select "File," and then "Add Folder to Library" to add an entire folder of media into your library. You can do the same for individual songs by selecting "Add song to library."
Step 3
To drag and drop files, just go to the directory on your computer that contains the song, and drag the files (one at a time or all at once) into the "Library" section on the left sidebar of the iTunes screen. If you want to add your own CD collection, put the CD in the disc drive and drag the CD icon under "Devices" in the Library section. To add movies, simply drag the movies into library (but the movies must be in a readable format).
Step 4
As for formatting your iPod, plug it in using the provided USB wire. iTunes should sense the unit. Select the iPod icon (it looks just like your device) on the left sidebar. This will bring up a section within iTunes that lets you easily select what content you want on your iPod. It's easiest if you establish playlists in iTunes, so you can quickly select play lists. This is especially useful if you have more content in iTunes than you can fit on your iPod.
Step 5
When you're through selecting the media that you want on your iPod, press "Sync" at the bottom right (or right click on the iPod image in the left sidebar and select "Sync." In just a few moments, your iPod has the selected content.
Step 6
Explore the iTunes Store (just select the iTunes Store icon) for new music, movies, audio books and podcasts. Podcasts are increasingly becoming a popular form of entertainment, and there are some very informative and entertaining podcasts that can be found in iTunes. Most radio programs, including virtually every program on National Public Radio, has a podcast. If you subscribe to a podcast, the latest show is automatically downloaded to iTunes. This lets you enjoy them on your computer, or on your iPod while you're on the go. Did I mention that podcasts are free?
Step 7
That's it -- you're off to a great start! Remember: Keep making playlists, exploring new content in the iTunes Store, and checking out new podcasts.
Tips & Warnings
*If your computer has trouble sensing your iPod, trying unplugging the iPod and restarting iTunes.
*iTunes does not support all video types. There are video converters on the internet
